From sustainable cities to a strong nation: Megaworld President named Top Stakeholder by PH Army

March 23, 2026

Property giant Megaworld’s President Lourdes T. Gutierrez-Alfonso has been honored by the Philippine Army as one of its distinguished ‘Stakeholder Awardees’, honoring her leadership and the company’s outstanding contributions to nation-building and unwavering support for community resilience and sustainability.

The award, presented by Philippine Army Chief Lt. Gen. Antonio G. Nafarrete to Gutierrez-Alfonso during the celebration of the Army’s 129th Founding Anniversary, recognized Megaworld’s proactive role in fostering a partnership that transcends traditional corporate social responsibility.

“We view our partnership with the Philippine Army as a vital catalyst for our sustainability mission. We look forward to more years of working with them in helping build a stronger, more secure future for our fellow Filipinos," says Gutierrez-Alfonso.

With Gutierrez-Alfonso at the helm, Megaworld and the Philippine Army have joined forces to pursue programs that promote nation-building and peace. These include a strategic collaboration focused on enhancing the readiness of stakeholders within Megaworld townships and the communities it serves to respond to natural calamities and various security challenges.

The two organizations also embarked on large-scale ecological programs together, including year-round coastal cleanups at Laoag City in Ilocos Norte, San Vicente in Palawan, Boracay in Aklan, and Lapu-Lapu City in Cebu. Another program that the two entities champion together is a massive reforestation effort that forms part of Megaworld’s Project Three Point Five, a nationwide commitment to plant and nurture 3.5 million trees across the Philippines.

“This award symbolizes our shared vision of a secure, resilient, prosperous Filipino nation. As we raise our national flag today, let it signify our renewed commitment toward serving the nation. As it flutters freely, may it reflect our own freedom. Unbound, free-flowing, enduring,” Lt. Gen. Nafarrete says in a  statement.

For Megaworld, the alliance with the Philippine Army significantly accelerates its mission to integrate the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) into its sustainability programs. By aligning its township expertise with the Army’s mission of peace and security, Megaworld continues to champion creating Sustainable Cities and Communities (SDG 11), protecting and promoting Life Below Water and On Land (SDGs 14  and 15), promoting Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions (SDG 16), and championing Partnerships for the Goals (SDG 17), all geared towards its vision of uplifting lives, impacting society, and helping shape the nation.

“We thank our partners from the Philippine Army for this recognition. This reinforces our mission to build safe, sustainable environments and communities that will drive Philippine growth for generations to come,” adds Gutierrez-Alfonso.
